File Extension Ram

The file extension .ram is a proprietary audio metafile (the metafile is a reference file, in this case it directs the computer to files containing locations for requested music) developed by RealNetworks for use with its RealPlayer. The file extension .ram stands for Real Audio Metafile or Real Audio Media. It is usually associated with the .ra or .rm files, which hold the actually content of the music.

RealNetworks developed the .ram file extension in order to access remote online streams for RealAudio or RealMedia. RealPlayer has created this proprietary audio file to establish real-time playing of music from Web sites. The file extension .ram uses a URL signal to locate the music files containing the .ra or .rm file extensions. While some Internet radio sites might require a RealPlayer plug-in, others offer readily available access without this extra device.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

Reggie E., N. Dakota

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

Carol S., Saskatchewan

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

Listening to music online is a multi-step process. Clicking on the RealAudio link activates the .ram metafile extension. The .ram metafile instructs the RealAudio file .ra file extension to locate the requested music. A HTML document can access the .ram file extension through a hyperlink to the RealAudio Server. In a certain sense, the .ram file extension is a shortcut link to music files stored on Web pages. The RealPlayer system can be used online, while the file is being downloaded or in an offline environment. It is very versatile.

The RealNetworks RealPlayer works on Linux, Mac OS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. RealNetworks has many different multimedia products including music, videos, movies and games.

More Info Regarding File Extension Ram

Internet Explorer, Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox can also play the .ram file extension, as long as they have been properly configured to do so. Third-party software is also available for playing this .ram file extension format.

Configuration of Web Servers to acknowledge the file extension .ram requires a number of important steps. The basic MIME type for the .ram file extension (which stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions and is used for Internet communications) is "audio/x-pn-realaudio". It is also wise to add the RealAudio plug-in, just in case it is needed on the designated Web Server.

The Web Server must recognize .ra, .rm. and .ram file extentions. These music files might not be downloaded completely - just accessed.

The Windows NT Server will need to be reconfigured through the Control Panel and HTTP Server applet. Select "New Mapping", enter "RAM" into file extension field, then enter "audio/x-pn-realaudio" as the MIME type), select OK to add this new .ram file extention MIME type.

On the Microsoft Internet Information Services Server, update through the Windows NT Registry. Log on as the Administrator, start "regedit32", go into the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE..." follow pathways to the "Mimemap" add value of "audio/x-pn-realaudio", select "REG_SZ" as Data Type and hit OK, repeat steps to add the "plug-in" also.

For the Netscape Netsite Server, update the "MIME.types" file and "Server's main configuration" file; then reinitialize the Web Server.

The RealNetwork system achieved superior compression - which allowed for faster playback - yet suffers from lower quality. A text editor could be used to create the .ram file. Computer programmers would be able to write proper code to access the .ram, .ra and .rm audio files.

Other formats might be more useful for your music. The Mini-stream Ripper (multi-channel music converter) can convert .ram to .wav music file extensions. It boasts of a two-step conversion process for accessing music from the computer or via the Internet. It has an adjustable conversion speed for accessing digital music. It also works well with many other media formats including .mp3.

Typical .ram file extension errors occur due to improper associations. Make sure you try to use the RealNetworks RealPlayer to run and open these file extension .ram files. If you have the wrong media player, it might not work. Your Web Server also must be configured to read .ram, .ra and .rm files. Otherwise, an error may occur.

Setting up the RealNetworks RealPlayer as your default media player may also solve some of these .ram file extension errors.
